Arlington VA, May 22, 2025 – The Essential Minerals Association (EMA) released the following statement today regarding the House of Representatives’ passage of the budget reconciliation package known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).
“We applaud and congratulate Speaker Johnson and the House of Representatives for passing this important legislation, which will help secure the mineral industry’s ability to continue to invest in American mineral production,” EMA President Chris Greissing said. “The OBBBA’s provisions renew the tax rates from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act ensure American energy and mineral dominance and reform the broken federal administrative state and federal permitting processes. These are crucial steps that will allow EMA member companies to prosper and provide essential mineral resources and jobs to power our nation.”
The OBBBA retains and protects important existing tax provisions, including the Percentage Depletion Tax Deduction, which enables EMA members to remain competitive against foreign, state-sponsored competitors from hostile nations like China and Russia. The deduction has been in place for more than 100 years and retaining it provides needed stability and predictability for the minerals industry to invest in domestic mineral production.
EMA’s urges the Senate to take up and pass the OBBA as soon as possible and send it to President Trump to sign into law.
